Originally completed in October 1918, the property was first known as the Raya Hotel (named after its first owner, Mary Ann Ray), then renamed the "Home Hotel" in 1927 by owners Susan and Thomas McGinley. After decades of operation, the hotel underwent a wave of renovation and returned to its simplified original name: Home Hotel Lava Hot Springs.
